Daily Buzz: Actress Talks About Stage IV Metastatic Cancer in PSA

In March 2007, actress Marcia Strassman was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer when the cancer cells had spread to her bones. Usually, the breast cancer primarily metastasizes to the bones, lungs, lymph nodes, liver or brain and is often fatal.

In the fall of 2009, I believed I had it all; a wonderful family with a beautiful little daughter, great friends and a job that I enjoyed. In late January 2010, I went to see the doctor about some pain and hardness occurring in my left breast. After completing a series of tests, I was told that I had breast cancer. Much work remains after Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the work of some remarkable people and organizations such as the American Cancer Society have made breast cancer household words, increased the number of women getting annual mammograms, and changed the language of victimization to the language of survivorship. There is still much to be done and more to be known about breast cancer.
