What is MBCN?
The Metastatic Breast Cancer Network (MBCN) is a national independent patient-led advocacy group dedicated to the unique concerns of the 155,000 women and men living with metastatic breast cancer, and the extimated 30% of those with primary breast cancer who face the possibility of recurrence and a stage 4 diagnosis.

MBCN puts a public face on the metastatic experience. We give those living with stage 4 disease a greater voice and visibility in the breast cancer community.

MBCN promotes the view that it is up to all of us, metastatic and non-metastatic alike, to join together to fight for the development of treatments to extend life, while the search for the cure continues.
What is MBCN's mission?
Our mission is to change the way metastatic breast cancer is viewed by the breast cancer community and the public at large. We raise awareness of metastatic breast cancer, there-by giving those living with this disease a greater voice and visibility in the breast cancer community.

MBCN strives to help those living with metastatic breast cancer be their own advocate through providing hope, education and information on better treatments and coping with the disease.

We, the metastatic population, need to be acknowledged, accepted and heard. We need this disease to be understood by the breast cancer community, the medical community and the public at large. We need to bring attention to our cause so that research will focus on the process of metastasis in order to develop more and better treatments to extend life and make stage 4 breast cancer a truly chronic disease.

What is on the 2009 horizon?
On May 16, Drs. Eric Winer & Nancy Lin at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston hosted our 2009 National Conference HOPE FOR THE FUTURE. It was a fabulous event!

We continue to grow Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day as a means of having our collective voices heard and developing awareness of this frequently misunderstood disease.

In recognition of Awarenesss Day, we are hosting programs with Dr. Larry Norton at MSK in New York City and Drs. Eric Winer, Nancy Lin & Ian Krop at DFCI in Boston.

We gathered and posted information on all mbc support groups across the country.

We provide mbc t-shirts free of charge to all walkers.

We continue to offer updated metastatic news reports and relevant information on metastatic events across the country.

We offer a brochure for the newly-diagnosed, done in consultation with Dr. Clifford Hudis at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

We are presently reaching out to those living with stage 4 disease across the country with our soon-to-be-produced & distributed 'kit' for the newly-diagnosed metastatic patient.
