A Comprehensive Look at Metastatic Breast Cancer

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute – Boston, MA

April 16, 2020

We are delighted to welcome you to our 3rd National Conference - devoted solely to the concerns of those of us living with metastatic breast cancer.

There can’t be an MBCN conference without thoughts of Nina Schulman. Nina welcomed you at our previous conferences. She fought to bring metastatic breast cancer out of the shadows. Her passion to found MBCN helped us begin to break through the isolation of this disease. She inspired us with her view that cancer can no longer be seen as a disease from which one is either a ‘survivor’ or to which one has succumbed. She stood her ground that we are here and we need to be recognized - not only by doctors and researchers and the breast cancer community … but by the population-at-large. Nina’s voice spread the awareness needed to help move us in the direction of metastatic beast cancer becoming a truly chronic disease, as the search for the cure continues. Nina’s voice remains our driving force.

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE is Nina’s voice. The program is designed to help ease fear of this disease, lessen the experience of isolation, and help those of us living with the disease be their own advocate through providing education and information.

Today we want to acknowledge, with deep appreciation, the generous hospitality of Drs. Eric Winer and Nancy Lin. We are especially grateful for the behind-the-scenes help of Claudia Cassano, Executive Staff Assistant to Eric Winer, MD. Additionally, the flow of the day would not be possible without all the amazing volunteers who gave of their time and energy to make today happen.

We appreciate the financial support provided by Susan G. Komen For The Cure, Karen Webster-Evans : Metastatic Cohort Study at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, donations in memory of Corinne Berry and Sharon Raics, and mileage points donated by Pat Raics, husband of Sharon.

We thank you all… and welcome everyone to HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.
